Hard to Ride an Electric Vehicle? Check These 7 Points
When riding an electric bicycle normally, if the bike feels heavy, both electric power and pedaling feel laborious, yet the speed is slow, we call this hard-to-ride. If your electric bicycle becomes more and more laborious the more you ride it, it is most likely caused by one of the seven reasons below.
Cause 1: The tires are under-inflated or leaking air slowly, which increases rolling friction between the tires and the ground.
Solution: Inflate the tires. If they leak air slowly, inspect and repair the tire first, then inflate and ride.
Cause 2: The wheel rim touches the brake shoes or other parts, causing friction.
Solution: 1) Set the wheel straight or adjust it; 2) Adjust the position of the brake shoes.
Cause 3: The friction drag between the rolling bearings of the front axle and the center axle is too large.
Solution: 1) Loosen the axle cones that were tightened too much on the front and center axles; 2) If a chain pulled too tight makes the friction drag of the center and rear axles too large, adjust the chain slack; 3) If mud, sand, or oil grease makes the friction of the front and center axles too large, clean them; 4) If bearing parts are broken, or burned from lack of lubrication so the friction drag is too large, replace the worn parts.
Cause 4: The rubbing drag of the electric bicycle drive system is too large.
Solution: 1) Adjust the related drive-system parts so that the freewheel, chainwheel, and chain all lie in one plane; 2) Eliminate axial runout of the chainwheel.
Cause 5: The wheel is soft.
Solution: Check spoke tension; if it is insufficient, tighten the spokes.
Cause 6: The chain is too tight.
Solution is simple: adjust the fore-and-aft position of the rear axle.
Cause 7: The lock nuts of the front and rear axle cones and the center axle parts are too tight, or the parts are worn.
Solution: Once this happens, loosen the fasteners, or replace or repair the worn parts.
These are the seven reasons why riding an electric bicycle can feel laborious. In daily use, be sure to inspect the bicycle regularly so you never get stranded halfway with a dropped chain.
