Common Faults of Electric Vehicle Chargers and Their Causes
The electric vehicle charger is a basic part of the vehicle. Because users are careless or pay it too little attention, the charger has become the accessory replaced most often. What are the common faults during charging, and what causes them? The Xupai team tells you.
Red light not on during charging, or only the green light on
1. The output fuse inside the charger is blown.
2. The output line of the charger is broken.
3. The circuit from the charging socket on the battery box to the batteries is not continuous, or the charging plug does not contact the socket well; it may also be that a connecting line of the pack is open or the fuse inside the box has blown.
4. Severe sulfation of the battery plates has caused the pack itself to fail, so it cannot be charged.
5. The red light-emitting diode of the charger is damaged.
Charging time is too short
1. The battery pack itself has lost capacity and its performance has deteriorated.
2. One cell within the pack shows clearly reduced capacity or abnormally high voltage.
3. A fan fault in the charger raises its temperature so much that the protection circuit works, making the charger stop charging early.
Cannot change state normally during charging: the red light never turns green
1. The battery pack itself is faulty; for example, a dropped cell makes the pack voltage too low, and the cells heat abnormally during charging, so the state cannot change over.
2. After a period of use, severe water loss inside the batteries prevents normal changeover; the cells heat abnormally and may even be charged into a swollen state.
3. The ambient temperature during charging is too high, which increases leakage current within the pack so that the late-stage current cannot decrease, also preventing normal changeover.
4. The battery and charger do not match, so the battery is overcharged or undercharged for a long time, eventually losing water and leaving the charger light never switching.
5. The charger current is too small and charging takes too long, so the battery is not effectively charged full within the expected time, and the charger does not switch lights.
The indicator light does not come on
The charger is damaged, or the indicator lamp itself is broken.
