The Complete Guide to Electric Vehicle Battery Care
The battery of an electric vehicle is its energy supply and a consumable part. A rechargeable battery generally lasts 2-3 years, but with unreasonable use that time is cut in half. So how exactly should an electric vehicle battery be cared for in daily life?
1. Choosing the charger
Pick a battery of good quality and brand so you can use it with peace of mind, and next choose a good charger. A widely circulated saying in the industry is: batteries are not worn out by use, they are ruined by charging. So the choice of charger matters a lot.
2. Overcharging is strictly forbidden
An electric vehicle battery only needs to be charged until full, generally about 8 hours. Some people make a habit of charging at night and unplugging the next morning, not realizing that this puts a heavy burden on the battery and harms its service life. Therefore consumers are advised to charge during the day, so the power can be cut off in time once the battery is full.
3. Avoid overly frequent fast charging
Many users choose to charge whenever they get a chance, and there is nothing wrong with that in itself; the mistake is that what they often pick is fast charging. Careful people will notice that in some homes the electric vehicle is plugged in all the time, unplugged when ridden and plugged back in when idle. This is very harmful to the battery and easily reduces its capacity, weakening the range and shortening the mileage.
4. Charge it even if the vehicle sits idle, without the slightest carelessness
Even if your vehicle is not used for a long time, charge it once a week. The reason is simple: go two or three months without charging and the battery is probably ruined. Do not let carelessness make you forget to charge, or you will end up spending money to make up for your own mistake.
5. Ride at an even speed
Daily riding habits also affect battery life. Riding evenly and braking abruptly as little as possible is the best protection for the battery.
6. Never ride on a discharged battery
An electric vehicle must never be ridden while undercharged. Every time the charge falls to the red zone of the indicator, charge it promptly; even a new battery must not be run completely flat before charging. If power suddenly runs low on the road, conserve the remaining charge and pedal with your feet instead. Never drain the battery flat just to save trouble.
