The electric vehicle has become one of people’s important means of transport, and the electric vehicle battery is the heart of the vehicle. An electric vehicle battery needs regular maintenance and care. So how should an electric vehicle battery be used correctly?

1. After electrolyte loss: if you find that the electrolyte has been consumed, do not add water or sulfuric acid to it; choose a storage battery replenishing fluid or distilled water instead.

2. The operating environment of the battery: changes in ambient temperature greatly affect the service life of the battery. Both extreme heat and extreme cold are killers of battery life.

3. Keep the battery sufficiently charged: while the vehicle runs normally, large power consumers draw their supply from the generator. In a traffic jam, however, the engine turns too slowly to guarantee normal operation of these high-power devices, and the battery has to start delivering power. Leaving the battery in this undercharged state for a long time accelerates plate aging and shortens its service life.

4. Storing the battery: some vehicles sit parked for long periods with no treatment of the battery at all, on the assumption that once the engine is off the power shuts down naturally. That is a mistaken idea: certain data the electronics must remember, and the initialization of some devices, need electric power to sustain them. A fully charged battery parked with the vehicle will run short of charge within 2-3 weeks, and if it sits a month its remaining charge will be released completely. So if the vehicle will stand idle for a long time, disconnect the cables from the battery terminals. Even stored by itself, a battery still self-discharges, so owners whose vehicles sit unused for long periods are advised to recharge the battery once every 2-3 months.
