How to Maintain the Motor of an Electric Vehicle

The motor is one of the four key parts of an electric vehicle and its power mechanism; how well it performs directly affects the whole vehicle, so it must be maintained and cared for. So how do you maintain an electric vehicle motor?

1. Check the wear of the motor brushes and commutator. Generally, a brush should be replaced when it wears down to 4-5 mm from the lead, and the commutator should be replaced when its surface depth exceeds 0.5 mm. For a motor in normal use, the brushes and commutator should be replaced periodically (usually every two years) regardless of wear.

2. Whether the motor is brushed or brushless, an excessive input current affects performance. The motor voltage is supplied by the controller, and aging electronic components in the controller can increase the current entering the motor. Therefore the controller must be inspected, and replaced if necessary.

3. Lubricate the gears, bearings, and reduction parts of the motor regularly. If the gears and the inner and outer bearing sleeves are worn excessively, the anti-vibration plate is deformed, or a spring loses performance or breaks, those parts should be replaced.

4. Remember to charge the vehicle battery often to keep a sufficient voltage, since low voltage can make the motor overheat and speed up its aging.

The above are the maintenance methods for an electric vehicle motor; we hope they are helpful!
