Electric vehicles are loved for being eco-friendly and convenient, but people often complain about their batteries and chargers, when in fact many problems are caused by human error. So how should you maintain an electric vehicle battery and charger?

1. Do not use a poor-quality charger. An inferior charger has unstable voltage and current and poor heat dissipation, so long-term use not only damages the battery but may also cause a fire.

2. Do not change the charger at will. The parameters of the chargers supplied with different electric vehicles are basically all different, so when you do not know a charger well, do not replace it casually or use another charger.

3. Do not let the charger be jolted for a long time. Chargers rarely fail from normal use; most are damaged by bumps during riding, so they do not tolerate strong vibration. Generally do not place the charger in the trunk or basket of the vehicle. You can wrap the charger in foam to protect it from vibration and jolting.

4. Develop the habit of charging every day. We suggest you charge daily to extend battery life. If the battery is often used before it is fully charged, it develops a memory effect that reduces its range and also wears down its life.

5. Always charge fully each time. When the charger indicator changes color, the battery looks fully charged but actually is not. Over time this builds up an undercharged state, so after the battery is charged and the indicator changes, keep charging a little longer to prevent sulfation.

6. Carry out a full discharge regularly. Under normal load on flat ground, ride until the first low-voltage protection kicks in, and after this full discharge, give the battery a full charge. A periodic full discharge also helps activate the battery and can slightly increase its capacity.

7. Pay attention to the charging environment. The best temperature for charging is 25°C. Charging in winter or summer can lead to overcharging or undercharging, so the battery and charger are generally kept in a ventilated environment at about 25°C room temperature.

8. Do not expose the battery to strong sunlight and heat. Do not leave the vehicle in direct sun. A too-hot environment raises the internal pressure of the battery and forces its pressure-limiting valve to open, which directly increases water loss. Excessive water loss inevitably lowers the activity of the battery, accelerates softening of the plates, and causes fatal damage such as a hot, bulging, or deformed case during charging.

9. Develop good power-saving habits. When you are about to meet a red light or go downhill, cut the power as early as possible and coast to slow down, minimizing braking. When starting, turn the throttle slowly to avoid the impact of high current on the battery, which also reduces power loss and damage to battery life.

10. When charging, plug the connector into the battery box first and then into the power supply. Because the charging current is large, if the charger is plugged into the AC side first, it completes its startup, and once it is then connected to the battery a large surge current is produced; an excessive surge current can easily damage the charger and affect battery life. Conversely, a soft-start charging lets the current rise gradually after a delay, which is better for protecting the equipment.

The above is some knowledge about maintaining an electric vehicle battery and charger. We hope it is helpful to you.
