How to Replace an E-Bike Battery
After an electric vehicle battery has been used for a while, its performance will inevitably decline, and then you need to replace the battery. So what are the steps for replacing it? Xupai tells you.
Replacing an e-bike battery usually involves four steps:
1. Confirm that the e-bike needs a new battery
Before replacing the battery, check whether it is really used up. If your battery is already damaged, there is no need to consider repairing it any further; you should replace it immediately. If not, check both ends of the battery before deciding to see whether there is corrosion formed by sulfation. If there is, gently tap the terminals with a hammer to see whether the corrosion can be knocked off; your battery may then be usable again.

2. Remove the old battery
Once you decide to replace the battery, get ready to take the old one away. First, scrub the battery with soda water. Then, using a wrench, carefully loosen the battery screw connected to the negative pole and take the wire clamp off the terminal; do the same for the positive pole. Next, hold the battery firmly and remove it from the e-bike. After taking out the battery, take a moment to clean the clamps and the battery tray with soda water. If they cannot be cleaned thoroughly, it is recommended to replace them.
3. Install the new battery
Carefully place your new battery in the battery tray. Make sure the positive and negative poles are positioned correctly, then tighten the bracket to secure the battery. Attach the wire clamp to the positive pole, and do the same for the negative pole. Then put the cover back on and test-ride your e-bike!
4. Reuse the old battery
This step deserves emphasis. Your old battery is highly toxic and must be disposed of properly. You can take it to an e-bike repair station or a dealer's shop, but it is still recommended to take it to a recycling center, where they will check whether it can be reused.
After reading this introduction, you should now have some idea of how to replace an e-bike battery. However, we recommend that you go to an e-bike shop and have a professional do the replacement.
