How to Repair an Electric Vehicle Battery
An electric vehicle battery is the power source of an e-bike, much like the human heart. When the heart has problems, the e-bike runs into all kinds of issues. So how can an electric vehicle battery be repaired? Below are some battery repair methods we have collected, and we hope they are helpful.
1. Imbalance
Repair method: find batteries with similar capacity, voltage, self-discharge, and internal resistance and use them together.
2. Sulfation
Repair method: treat the sulfated battery with a digital repair instrument based on fuzzy digital control theory. By measuring the battery state, it continuously emits positive and negative variable-frequency micro-particle waves during charging and discharging, and over 10 to 20 hours removes the hardened lead sulfate crystals that have formed inside the battery.
3. Water loss
Repair method: Pry open the cover plate on top of the battery. On some batteries the cover is bonded with ABS adhesive, on others it is snapped on, and on some it slides. Be careful not to damage the cover when prying it open. Then you can see the rubber caps of the six exhaust valves. Remove the rubber caps to expose the exhaust holes, and through them you can see inside the battery. On some batteries the base of the exhaust valve can be unscrewed, so you can open it by twisting the valve base without removing the rubber cap. On some batteries there are also fillings around the rubber caps. Open the cover and shine a flashlight to check whether the small holes show any drying, that is, whether the battery has lost water. The battery plates are wrapped in white fiberglass cotton and should be moist under normal conditions. Use a dropper to draw in distilled water and inject it through the exhaust holes into the battery. Cover the exhaust holes of the refilled battery with a breathable shielding object to keep dust out. Medical-grade double-distilled water is best. The principle for refilling water is to add less rather than more: if it is not enough you can add more, but too much lowers the acid specific gravity and the battery capacity will fall short.
Note: For water-refill tools, use glass or plastic tubes. A disposable medical syringe is recommended, as it is easy to use and easy to measure with. The refill tools must not include any metal parts; the syringe should have its metal needle removed and a short plastic tube fitted before use.

4. Plate softening
Repair method: discharge the battery until it reaches 10.5V, then deeply discharge it with a light bulb for 1 to 5 hours. After that, use an activation instrument to restore and repair it.
5. Open circuit
Repair method: test at 100A; if the battery voltage is 0V it is an open circuit. Measure each cell individually to locate the break and weld it closed.
A multimeter can be used to find the open-circuit point in the battery!
6. Short circuit
Repair method: for a flooded battery, you can drill holes to clean it out and remove the lead powder causing the short. For an electric vehicle battery, you can briefly short the positive and negative terminals to burn through the shorted point!
From the introduction above, we hope you now have some understanding of electric vehicle battery repair methods. However, we advise that if you are not a professional, you should not try to do this yourself.
